How an IPTV player works
Your provider gives you a playlist, either as an M3U URL or as a login with a server address, username and password. The player loads that list, sorts it into live channels, movies and series, adds programme information from the TV guide (EPG) and plays the streams over your internet connection.
IPTV player vs. IPTV provider
The provider supplies the channels and is responsible for having the rights to them. The player is just software, like a video player on your computer. Hit Player is a player only: it doesn't sell, host or provide any channels.
What to look for in an IPTV player
Before you pay for a player, check that it ticks these boxes:
- It runs on your device — for example Samsung (Tizen) or LG (webOS) TVs
- It supports your playlist type: M3U URL or provider login
- A TV guide (EPG) and fast channel switching
- Movies and series with continue watching
- A free trial so you can test it with your own playlist
- Clear pricing, ideally with a lifetime option
Do you need an IPTV player on a Smart TV?
Most Smart TVs can't open IPTV playlists on their own, so you need a player app from your TV's app store. On Samsung and LG TVs you can install Hit Player and add your playlist in a few minutes.
